Itinerary

Arrival at Gongaar airport in Lhasa Meeting and assistance at the airport and transfer to your hotel in Lhasa Lhasa is the best place to explore the monasteries and Palaces once occupied by religious heads of Tibet. Tibet's nation, language, diet, climate and geography are unique and deeply religious. Tibetans are open spontaneous people admirably good humored and quick to joke. Being the capital city, with 1,300 years of history, Lhasa, which means holy land of Buddha's land in Tibetan, is the political religious economical and cultural centre of Tibet. Rest of the day is at leisure for acclimatization to the altitude. Overnight at your hotel in Lhasa

After breakfast, full day tour of Potala Palace, Sera Monastery, Norbulingka & Tibet medicine centre The Potala is considered one of the great wonders of the world. It is held sacred by Tibetans as the former residence of successive Dalai Lamas, and is one of Tibet's most holy pilgrimage sites. A palace was originally built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo, but around the 9th century it is believed to have been destroyed by a big fire. The present Potala Palace was constructed by the great fifth Dalai Lama in the 17th century after he became ruler of Tibet. Sera Monastery was founded in around 15th century by Jamchen Choeje who is another famous disciple of Tsongka pa and it is the second largest monastery of Tibet. Norbulingka is the first summer Palace which was founded by the seventh Dalai Lama in 18th century and the first Palace Kelsang Podrang were also constructed as the same name as the 7th Dalai Lama, Kelsang Gyatso. After breakfast, full day tour of Drepung monastery, Jokang temple, Ramoche Temple & Bharkor Street/market Drepung monastery is the largest monastery in Tibet, built in the 15th century by Jamyang Choeje who is one of Tsongkapa’s foremost disciples. The monastery is beautifully located up in a hill at the distance of 7 Km from the old section of the city and it is the biggest monastery in Tibetan Buddhism. The Jokang is Tibet’s most sacred temple, the main point of pilgrims from the entire Tibetan plateau. Located at the heart of the ancient town of Lhasa, it was built in the 7 th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo’s queen Bhrikuti on a site identified by Queen Wencheng according to her geomantic calculation. Ramoche Temple is a Buddhist monastery widely considered to be the second most important in Lhasa after the Jokhang Temple. Situated in the northwest of the city, it covers a total area of 4,000 square meters. Ancient Bharkor Street is the most sacred pilgrimage site in Lhasa and it is full of pilgrims from down till dusk. There are four huge prayer flags situated in Bharkor street which surrounds the Jokang, known respectively as Gadhen Dharchen in the northeast, Juyak Dharchen in the west, Kelsang Dharchen in the southwest and SharKyaring Dharchen in the southeast. Morning, drive to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet (via northern route) In the afternoon, visit the Tashi Lhumpo Monastery, the largest & most magnificent amongst all Monasteries in Tibet and there is much to explore within its high surrounding walls. It contains the world's largest brass statue of Maitreya Buddha, which is over 80 feet tall and has extremely delicate features. Tashi Lhumpo is also the traditional residence of the Panchen Lama, second only in religious importance to the Dalai Lama himself. Visit the fascinating local market there. Also visit temple of future Buddha which is 26 m high & gilded with gold. Overnight at your hotel in Shigatse

Commence day excursion to Sakya Monastery. Today, you will drive along the flat Tibetan plateau. Sakya Monastery is located in Sakya County, the west of Shigatse. Sakya Monastery is the principal monastery of the Sakyapa Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Sakya means grey white colored clay which seems auspicious. Because the monastery treasures numerous collections of murals, thankas and Buddhist scriptures of Tibet, Sakya Monastery is well-known as the “Second Dunhuang” in China. The main highlights in Sakya Monastery are its architecture, large collection of Sutras, Tibetan Traditional art (Thankas and mural), Religious ceremonies etc. Drive back to Shigatse. Overnight at your hotel in Shigatse

Drive to Gyantse, a small bustling town seeped in history. Visit Kumbum Chorten and Pelkhor Chode Monastery Kumbum Chorten is a spectacular stupa temple, whose name means "Place of 100 Thousand Images", was the centerpiece of Pelkhor Chode Monastery, and the pride of Gyantse. The Pelkhor Chode Monastery occupies an important place in Tibetan Buddhism history because different Buddhism sects, like Gelugpa, Sakyapa, were compatible in this monastery. Overnight at your hotel in Gyantse

Drive back to Lhasa. Drive along the Yarlung Tsangpo river and then over a high pass Khamb-La pass (4,794m) and along the Turquoise lake, Yamdrok Tso. Also cross Karo-La pass (5,045 m) on the way. Rest of the day is free. Overnight at your hotel in Lhasa
